D'Addario J75's
08/16/06

Lots of punch, not much "new string noise".
They settled in after a day or so, staying in
tune.
D'Addario J74's
Seem to have more "new string noise",
but settle down after a few days. They
sound pretty good when well played in.

GHS A270's
I like these a lot. They settle in real fast
and have what seems to be a more woody
sound in the bass side.
Fire Wire
WOW, these are great!
The first thing I noticed was the wound wire is
thinner/smoother than the J75's I was taking off, even
though they were the same gauge wires. Even the A
strings did not seem to be as stiff as the .016 J75's.
Once I got tuned up to pitch and the loop ends were
firmly seated they stayed in tune. In fact they were still
in tune the next morning. They weren't kidding when
they claim to be pre-stretched. Woody sounding too.
There was none of that new string noise and the
strings felt smooth as if they were coated (they're not).
Like putting on a broken in set of strings.
They are a little pricey, $12.99, but claim to last
longer. I will definitely try some more to see if they are
consistent pack to pack.
